-
MikeLive! uses Windows Media streaming.
-
You will need to have Windows Media Player
installed on your PC.
-
The station is only available on the internet,
though it is possible, if you have broadband and wi-fi, to buy an
internet radio to enable you to listen to internet radio stations
without running a PC. See
www.Reciva.com
for details.
-
The main page for MikeLive! is at
www.mikelive.co.uk. Normally
the station will start playing automatically when you visit the site
- you have to do nothing further!
-
MikeLive! now streams on the internet at
two data rates, at 96kb/s in stereo, this is a higher quality signal
for broadband connections, and 32kb/s in mono which is lower sound
quality, but enables dial-up users to listen.
-
Until October 2008, we used a maximum of 64kb/s. We
hope that broadband listeners enjoy the increase in sound quality
resulting from the switch to 96 kb/s.
-
Your Windows Media player should switch automatically between the
two different data rates as appropriate.
-
Occasionally, if there is an issue with congestion
on the network connectivity, you may find that your player switches
to 32kb/s, even if you are listening via a broadband connection, in
this case the player will automatically switch back to 96 kb/s for improved sound quality once the network connection
improves.
-
Depending on your browser and security settings,
you may receive an ActiveX or Windows security warning message in
place of the on page (known as embedded) Windows Media player, you
will need to accept this message in order for the embedded player to
run. You will normally only have to do this once from your PC, on
subsequent visits it will not be necessary.
-
If you cannot get the embedded player in the
MikeLive! page to work, then click on the "Open with Media Player"
which should open Windows Media player and start the station stream.
-
At the start of each track, the name of the
artist and of the track will appear in the display of the embedded
Windows Media player. To enable this feature on a separate Windows
Media Player, in tools/option, select captions and subtitles to 'on
if possible', this will then enable the artist and track name to be
displayed.

Attention AUDIOREALM listeners - the station is
